1. Scope:
This packaging course aims to provide a solid foundation in packaging principles. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
Understand the basic concepts of packaging, including its functions, materials, and design elements.
Identify suitable packaging materials based on product characteristics and market requirements.
Learn about packaging regulations and standards relevant to the Indian market.
Know the fundamentals of packaging design and the factors such as product protection, cost-effectiveness, and consumer appeal.
Acquire knowledge of basic packaging testing methods to ensure product quality and safety.
Gain insights into sustainable packaging practices, product marketing, branding and how to make informed packaging decisions.
2. Eligibility:
To enroll in this certificate program, applicants must meet any one of the following criteria:
Academic Background: Possess any degree/diploma (except B.E./B.Tech.) in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
Entrepreneurs: From Packaging and Allied industries.
3. Course duration & conduct:
Course duration: 6 months
Class schedule: 5 sessions per week, 1.5 hours/session
Session timings: Evening 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM IST and Weekends, if required
Practical components: Online laboratory demonstrations
Contact programme: 1 week
4. Fee Structure:
Registration fees: ₹. 500 (Amount) + ₹. 90 (18%GST)
Admission fee: ₹. 5000 (Amount) + ₹. 900 (18%GST)
Course fee: ₹. 25,000 (Amount) + ₹. 4500 (18%GST)
Total = ₹. 35,990/-
The total course fee may be paid in two instalments or the convenience of the participants.
Fee for overseas candidates - US $1000/- (Including Form Fee and Service Tax)
Note: Course fee has to be paid prior to the commencement of sessions.
5. Syllabus:
Paper 1: Introduction to Packaging, Packaging Materials & its Manufacturing, Product Packaging (real world case studies and applications)
Paper 2: Packaging Machinery & Technologies, Printing and Printing Inks, Packaging Design and Development
Paper 3: Packaging Standards, Laws & Regulations, Testing & Quality Evaluation of packaging, Sustainability, Trends & Innovations in Packaging, Packaging Selection & Procurement
6. Course Schedule:
a) Sessions:
Duration: 21 Weeks
The daily sessions/classes would cover all the topics/sub-topics provided in the syllabus, but these may interchange based on the availability of the faculty. However, all efforts would be taken to complete the modules in the respective durations of the course schedule.
b) Contact Programme:
Duration: 1 Week
Contact programs and industrial visits (covering 2-3 industries) will be planned with the consent of participants and the institute, ensuring appropriate logistics and convenience for all.
Virtual laboratory demonstrations will be arranged for participants who are unable to attend the contact programme.
c) Project work:
Duration: 2 Weeks
Participants will undertake a packaging-related project aligned with their industry or develop a comprehensive packaging solution through industrial training. Alternatively, they can prepare a dissertation or review article based on relevant research.
Upon completion, a project report must be submitted for evaluation. A project presentation and viva voce examination will be conducted.
9. Assessment (Online):
The course will include a comprehensive assessment approach to evaluate participants' learning outcomes. This includes:
Knowledge-based assessments: Quizzes/written exams to measure understanding of core packaging concepts and principles.
Project-based assessments: A project involving a comprehensive packaging solution, coupled with a presentation and viva voce examination, to evaluate practical application of knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.
Online Examinations, project presentation & Viva-Voce will be conducted at the end of each phases. A candidate is required to pass all the examinations and successfully complete the project work to obtain the certificate. Candidates with minimum 75% attendance will be allowed to appear for the examinations. (A prior notification will be given to the candidate about the exam schedule.)
Further, a candidate must obtain at least 40% marks in each paper and at least 50% as aggregate to obtain Certificate. The grading system is as follows;
A - 70% and above First Class with distinction
B - 60% and above but less than 70% First Class
C- 50% and above but less than 60% Second Class
9. Certification:
After successful completion of the course, the candidates will be awarded with the certificate by Indian Institute of Packaging.
10. Cancellation of Admission:
For cancellations before commencement of the Course - 10% of the fees paid will be forfeited and balance will be refunded.
There will be no refund of fees after the commencement of the Course.
